HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital Receives $35,123 Donation for Purchase of State-of-the-Art MRI Goggles

Green Bay – HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce it received a $35,123 donation from the Beaux Mettler Foundation – a nonprofit which aims to support educational needs for children in the hospital through technology – to be given to HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital. The donation will be used to purchase video goggles that make it more comfortable for children to receive MRI scans. The KC Stock Foundation, Inc. and the Cornerstone Foundation also provided funds to help make this donation possible.
“Most people would agree that it can be tough staying still during an MRI while you’re in a confined space in a loud machine,” said Barb Halron, treasurer of the Beaux Mettler Foundation. “And for children, that task can be difficult without sedation. But now, this new technology will provide a more comfortable, relaxing environment. That’s why we are thrilled to make this donation in support of HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital.  We support their work in caring for the region’s youngest patients and helping them find comfort while they undergo medical procedures.”
The innovative goggles, accompanied by MRI headphones, are a safe distraction for children. As an alternative to sedation, the goggles are worn like a pair of glasses. The visual effects immerse patients in what they are watching and ultimately help the patient remain calm and comfortable during a noisy MRI scan.
“HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital is dedicated to making the patient experience a number-one priority,” said Heidi Warpinski, Executive Director at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital. “This generous donation made by the Beaux Mettler Foundation and other valued community partners allows us to expand the tools we are able to use to individualize care for our pediatric patients and their families. We strive to keep patients as comfortable as possible and in this case, we can make an MRI experience something fun and a little less scary.”
The goggles will not only be used during MRI scans, but across many different diagnostic settings.
